Had charge of the squad that conducted Major John Andre, British spy, to the scaffold. Andre expected to be shot. When he saw the scaffold he turned to Lieutenant Torrey and said, 'My God, is it this?'
  Note	William Torrey was at the battle of White Plains William Torrey rose to the rank of Captain and became on of the original members of the Society of the Cincinnati, July 17, 1786.
