  Note	Clara, Gram to me, was a very social person. She loved to have people around to chat with and keep her company. She really loved gardening, especially her outside plants. For many years she had a yellow rambler that had intertwined with a fringe tree. As they both blossomed at the same time, the yellow rose and white fringe was not only beautiful but the air was heavily scented. Gram used to knit and crochet hats, mittens, and whatever else she deemed necessary. She is the one who had the patience to teach me these skills at a young age. I am left-handed, and although she was right- handed, somehow I muddled through with her guidence. My love for making pies must have come from Gram. How she tolerated me makinga mess on her Hoosier cabinet trying to create a crust was beyond me. To this day pie making is a labor of love. Gram was a saver--she seldom tossed anything out, which was a real challenge after she passed away. Dad got the job of cleaning out most of the house. For the Guilford Bicentennial I wore a wedding dress ( Brown) that I think was her Mother's I also had scrunched my feet into some old high button shoes. In one of the upstairs bedrooms she had a feather-bed which Kelly & I loved to sleep in. We would fluff up the mattress and pillows, then jump in. Everything just seemed to fold around you, keeping everyone very warm. Gram was a tall, big-boned woman, with short straight hair. I have copies of several poems that she composed during her lifetime. I think the best are the ones completed in the last few years. Most of my childhood memories include her and the farm.
