  Note	Ephraim graduated from Harvard in 1756, and received the degree of M.D. at Yale in 1759. He was Surgeon at Fort William Henry in 1757. He was one of the few to escape the massacre upon the surrender of that fort to the French and Indians in 1756. He settled in Scituate, his practice being very extensive. (He may have built - instead of his father, the Otis House in 1760-70.) He was on the first committee appointed by the town in 1774 to act in reference to the Revolutionary War, being an uncompromising Whig. During the war he lost most of the handsome property, which he had accumulated in his practice, by loaning it to the government. He was a man of 'refined manner, sound judgment, and decision of character.'
