3. EDWARD9 PUTNAM (THOMAS8, JOHN7, NICHOLAS6, JOHN5, RICHARD4, HENRY3, NICHOLAS2 PUTTENHAM, WILLIAM1) was born May 04, 1654 in Salem Village, Massachusetts (now called Danvers), and died March 10, 1746/47 in Salem Village, Massachusetts (now called Danvers). He married MARY HALE June 14, 1681.
Notes
His will is dated 11 March 1731, proved 11 apr 1748, "Edward Putnam of Middleton, yeoman" mentions his wife Mary, sons Edward, Joseph, Elisha, Ezra, Issac, and daughters Prudence and Abigail, Granddaughters Elizabeth and Anna Flint.
Deason Edward was much respected and loved by his neighbors. Made freeman in 1690- and on 3 Dec. 1690 was chosen deacon of the First Church in Danvers. He was a farmer, during the witchcraft trials he was a memeber of the party which brought charges against so many innocent people.

In 1733, as Edward Putnam was about eighty, he described his family, 'From the three brothers proceeded twelve males. From these twelve males, forty males, and from these forty males, eighty-two males. There were none of the name of Putnam in New England but those from this family.' The first three brothers in his reference were Thomas, Nathaniel and John, sons of John Putnam from England.
