Note	American colonial scholar & clergyman, 4th President of Harvard College; ... he was brought to America in 1634, showd himself an able mathematician & astronomer when a mere boy, graduated from Harvard 1649, studied theology, preached for several years in England & in 1671 became pastor of the church in Cambridge & in 1674 became President of Harvard College. Dr Increase Mther wrote in 1682 that Urian Oake 'was one the the greatest lights that ever shone in this part of the world, or that is ever liklely to arise in this horizon.'
