  Note	Facts: Gov. Bradford’s account of the Mayflower passengers, written in Mar. 1651 states Francis Cooke had three children still living (son John is accounted for separately). It is known that of his children, Jacob, Hester & Mary were living. Therefore, Jane must have been deceased by Mar. 1651. He also states that Francis has “seene his childrens, children, have children”. The only one of his grandchildren to have children was Jane’s daughter Elizabeth, who married in 1645 John Washburn. To have married this early, she must have been born by 1629. Therefore Experience & Jane were probably married c1628 (certainly not earlier as Jane was single in the 1627 Cattle Division). Thru land deeds , Thomas MITCHELL (b. c1631) has been proven to be a grandson of Francis Cooke & shared in the division of his estate; therefore, both Elizabeth & Thomas are accepted as children of Jane. The next child, Mary, was married in 1652, which places her birth at sometime before 1635; researchers suggest she could have been Jane’s daughter. There is now a span of at least 6 years before the birth of Sarah, c1641 (ae 90 in 1731). A span of time such as this usually indicates stillborn or infant deaths, or a re-marriage. The remaining Mitchell children were Jacob, b. “perhaps” c1643; Edward, b. “perhaps” c1645; John, b. “probably” after 1650 (in. 1675) and Hannah, b. after 1657 (last child b.1702). With the exception to the reference to Elizabeth MITCHELL, Bradford did not mention the number of children Experience & Jane had. Bowman states: “In the edition of Governor Bradford’s History of Plimouth Plantation published by the Massachusetts Historical Society in 1912, it is stated (Vol.2, p.408> that Francis COOKE’s daughter Jane married about 1628, Experience MITCHELL and died without issue. This error appeared first, I believe, in William T. DAVIS’s Ancient Landmarks published in 1883, but the error was corrected in the appendix of the second edition published in 1899...in years of study of the original records I have not seen an item which seemed to indicate that Experience MITCHELL’s second wife Mary was the mother of any of his children.”

  	Affidavit of Experience MITCHELL. ...15 Feb. 1679, Experience MITCHELL being called to give evidence Testifieth and saith that goodman WILISE/WILLIS decon to the church of Bridgewater came to my house to make way for his sone to spake vith my daughter but I denied him severall times: he told mee that if hee colld/ could but spake with her of or on it wolld/would satisfie him: where upon through my wives and my daughters persuatione I gave way to it: The said WILISE asked mee what I had against his sone he was a stranger to me: I tolde him that his sone did not know what love was the Abovesaid WILISE asked me what the Reson was that I thought so: I told him that he was in leage with one: and east his eye one/on another and lefte her that he was in leage with and came to her that he had east his eye upon and do you thinks that this is love saide I: I named nobody: but hee said I know nothing af that: and he said my son is basely abused: and said I have been with them and given them good satisfation and there is nothing in it: and he said I have been with your son and daughter and have given them good satisfaction and thay are very wilin and free to it and I doe not questione if you wold here me that I shold give you good satisfaction two whereupon I praied him to forbere for I wold enter into no discorse with him no more I did not: and farther saith not. Pr. 4 Sept. 1689. Inventory 14 May 1689. Experience MITCHELL of Bridgevater to Thomas CLARKE of Plimouth. ...25 Feb. 1684, Experiance MITCHELL formerly of the town of Dusbury but now of the town of Bridgewater...old planter & one of the purchasers of the lands of said Plimouth Calony...for a certain compettent sum of currant...sells to Thomas CLARKE, one other of said purchasers...land bounded by Yarmouth, Namsscakett and Eastham...reserving one small lot of upland with som meadow layed out to me adjoyning or neer unto Mr. William BRADFORD’s lott near Bound Brooke...which sd lott I gave my son in law John WASHBOURN who sold it to sd BRADFORD...all which said tracts of land...are scittuate upon a neck of land for the most part called Cape Cod.
